The exhibition " Permanent sojourn" showcases artworks created by artist from 2020 to 2024, focusing on the definition of belonging and how this need finds its place.
I envision "travel" and "residency" as a spectrum from left to right, delineated by varying durations: travel, residency, temporary dwelling, and settlement, alongside dispersed living, nomadism, etc. It seems like a singular choice or state, but in reality, we constantly flow between them.
Urban life is akin to temporary dwelling, as people always seek ways to settle. However, modern cities are composed of numerous "transient spaces" such as malls, hospitals, cafes, hotels, etc., where belonging is elusive. When our lives are filled with such places, convenient and stimulating though they may be, they continually render us as "travelers."
We continually traverse, lingering in these spaces, irrespective of having a home or not, we live in a state of constantly flowing and transferring. Thus, this state rendering residence akin to a variant of travel. Therefore, people navigate between states of travel and residency, emerging within multifaceted and complex circumstances.
